History of OJSC Polotsk Dairy Plant

OJSC Polotsk Dairy Plant is situated in Polotsk, Republic of Belarus. The structure of the enterprise also includes Miory and Rossony production areas.

Open Joint Stock Company “Polotsk Dairy Plant” (or shortly OJSC Polotsk Dairy Plant) is registered in unified state register of legal entities. Company has its own settlement and other accounts in banks, seal and stamp, letterhead and trademark (certificate № 22796 dated 04.05.2006 issued with National Center of Intellectual Property).

In its work the enterprise follows Belorussian legislation and charter of open joint stock company.

The governing bodies are:

        general meeting of shareholders;

        supervisory board;

        director and superior managers of the enterprise.

The history of the company goes back to June, 1944 – right after the liberation of Polotsk during the World War II. The first location of the enterprise was in the region of Zadvinie. All the dairy products were supplied to the battlefront and different military establishments.

In 1950 a new dairy plant was built. In that time the plant was able to process up to 25 tons of raw milk per day and the manufacturing process was partly mechanized. The personnel was only about 25-30 employees.

To satisfy the growing necessity of population in dairy products in December 1964 a new dairy plant with the capacity of 50 tons in shift was built. In 1976 the plant proceeded about 176 tons per day. The personnel increased to 367 employees.

As the population of Polotsk and Polotsk region and Novopolotsk grew, the necessity in a larger dairy appeared. On December, 30, 1987 a new dairy plant with the capacity of 550 tons of raw milk per day.

On December 30, 1996 Open Joint Stock Company “Polotsk Dairy Plant” was created. In June 2003 OJCS Polotsk Dairy Plant was reorganized by attaching OJSC “Miory Dairy Plant” and OJSC “Rossony Dairy Plant” and in November 2004 – by attaching OJSC “Automobile Company”.

Every year the company widens the range of manufactured goods, introduces new technological lines and new products. In 1995 a technological line on ice-cream production with a capacity of 2,5 tons was put into operation. In the same year in cottage-cheese production area a new technological line for glazed curds manufacturing was put into operation. Due to their high quality and beautiful cover the curds is in a great demand among costumers. In 2007 another analogous technological line on curds manufacturing was installed. In 1996 a production area for mayonnaise manufacturing with the capacity of 1 ton per shift was mounted. In 2000 the volume of mayonnaise output was about 2 tons per shift. In 1998 the company developed the manufacture of semi-hard cheese rennet using Bulgarian production line “DONIDO”. In 2000 the enterprise started the production of curds desserts. In 1999-2000 the reconstruction of milk and dairy products bottling line was made. The milk bottling line was disassembled and automatic milk polythene bag-filling machine and machine for filling in packaging Pure-Pack were installed.

Technical upgrading of production areas required not only essential financial injections, but also maximum output from each employee. Three investment projects on total amount of 3 billion rubles were provided for partial reconstruction of compressor, automation of management system for milk powder and butter production and also for installation of new production line for traditional cottage-cheese.

In the production workshop of milk powder and butter complete overhaul, including installation of plastic doors and windows. Graduation towers for circulating water supply were renovated completely. Complete overhaul including purchasing of new equipment in the department of micro-biological control, physic-chemical control and in the laboratory of the hardware workshop area of whole-milk products was made. In the whole-milk products workshop area all the doors and windows are replaced on plastic ones.

Massive energy conservation measures have been carried out on the enterprise since 2000: in 2002 the boiler room was completely converted on natural gas; in 2003-2004 refrigerated storage room for butter and ice-cream was re-equipped for autonomous freon refrigeration. The capacity of the boiler room was optimized by replacing the boiler DE 16/14 on less powerful. In Miory production area boilers running on local fuels were installed. In 2008 isolation of refrigerated storage room for butter and cottage-cheese, using sandwich panels with polyurethane foam, was made. Variable-frequency drives have been installed recently on the manufacturing equipment with high power consumption.

In 2005 the first stage of modernization of milk drier VRA-4, involving the installation of fluid bed, was carried out in order to increase efficiency, to decrease energy consumption and to improve the quality of the manufactured goods. In the beginning of 2009 modernization of another milk drier VRA-4 with installation gas heat generator was complete.

The company improved its transport facilities by joining as an affiliate Polotsk Automobile Company. As a result, the cost of transportation decreased on nearly 35 %.

The work of Polotsk Dairy Plant is aimed at satisfying the growing demand of our customers in foodstuffs of the highest quality. Today our company produces a wide range of foodstuffs that count more than 70 items and includes the following groups of items: milk powder, butter, whole-milk products, cottage-cheese, glazed curds, deserts, semi-hard cheese, ice-cream, mayonnaise.
